Some background

In the internet you can find many free fonts created by enthusiasts, which imitate seven-segment display expressing the Latin alphabet. That fonts even distinguish capital and small letters. Of course, not the all letters can be expressed properly. Each creator of such a font invents own variants how to make it. For example, the font Segment7, of the year 2014, by Cedric Knight, uses Greek capital letter Ξ (ksi) instead of Latin capital X, and Greek μ (mu) instead of Latin small m. And what if you used in such a way not only Greek alphabet, but any writing system of the world? What if you wanted to create an a posteriori artificial alphabet having more letters for expressing more phonemes (like that of Esperanto)? Then you get something like this Abetal alphabet here. The main idea is - to use seven-segment pattern signs and the writing systems of the world to have an artificial alphabet. Its realization may differ. The variant here is an example, it may be not optimal, if the optimal variant is possible at all. It may be a matter of public convention. See the table

So, if you have a font with all possible seven-segment signs (see below), you can play with it as you want. Looking at the mentioned list of all possible 127 signs, you can see, almost all the signs may have its meaning not invented but already existing. The signs of seven-segment pattern are new runes born by the XX century, techno-runes of the new age.

Bernard Shaw had served from 1926 to 1939 on the BBC's Advisory Committee on Spoken English, which included several exponents of phonetic writing. He also knew Henry Sweet, creator of Current Shorthand (and a prototype for the character of Henry Higgins), although Shaw himself used the shorthand system of Isaac Pitman. You can see, there are two official systems of hexadecimal encoding: "abcdefg" and "gfedcba". Here the model "gfedcba" is selected, maybe without a serious reason, but because only one from the two would be used. However, it seems more logical to count the digits in a number from right to left, because when a number grows, the new digits are added from the left.

So, one can refer to the signs by their hexadecimal code:

The Unicode interval U+2500 ... U+257f is the block of "Box Drawing". Of course, there are large blocks of the Unicode for private use, but the seven-segment pattern is not a private matter, and then, if you see something like ╥╰╉ ╉╹╥┧┞ ╴╶┻ and if you know about Abetal, you can guess, that it can be a message written in Abetal, and you can easily decode it applying formatting by some Abetal font. And if you see , you don't know what is it.
